KME Panther Recall 22V871: Steering tie rods may separate, causing loss of steering

NHTSA campaign 22V871, reported November 23, 2022, 6 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain fire trucks have tie rod clamps that may have been improperly heat-treated. Over time these clamps can fail, allowing the steering tie rods to separate.

If a tie rod separates, the vehicle can suddenly lose steering control, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners of affected vehicles should have their trucks inspected and repaired as soon as possible.

Dealers will replace both tie rod clamps free of charge. Owners who received a notification letter mailed December 13, 2022 can contact Marion Body Works customer service at 1-715-754-5261 (recall number 22V-778). You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
