- Component
- BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
- Problem
- Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles equipped with rearview camera systems and 8-inch screen displays. The rearview camera image may still be displayed after a backing event has ended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Risk
- A rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- The SYNC module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 25, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22C27.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
What this recall means for you
The rearview camera image may remain displayed on the 8-inch screen after the vehicle has been shifted out of reverse. This means the system does not meet the federal rear visibility standard, FMVSS 111.
A rearview image that keeps showing after you have left reverse can distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash.
The fix is a free software update to the SYNC module, which a dealer can install or which can be delivered over the air. Owners may also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls to see whether your Bronco is affected.
