What this recall means for you
Certain 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles may have a rearview camera image that is delayed or deactivated. The camera is meant to show what is behind the vehicle, and when its image is delayed or missing, the driver has less view behind the car. These vehicles also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, which covers rear visibility.
With reduced rear visibility, the driver is more likely to hit people, objects or other vehicles while backing up. The risk is greatest for small children and others who may be behind the vehicle and hard to see.
The remedy is a free software update performed by an authorized Volkswagen dealer. Owners who received the notification letter mailed January 17, 2023 can follow the instructions in it, or contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 (recall 91EG). You can also check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
