Utilimaster Walk-IN Van Recall 22V754: Shifter cable can melt and cause fire or shifting failure

NHTSA campaign 22V754, reported October 7, 2022, 451 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The transmission shifter cable on certain 2022 Utilimaster Walk-In vans may contact the exhaust manifold. Over time, heat can melt the cable's outer coating and damage the cable itself, which can prevent the transmission from shifting properly.

A melted coating may increase the risk of a fire, and a damaged cable may stop the transmission from shifting, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners should not ignore shifting problems or signs of melted or damaged cable coating.

The repair is free. Shyft Group will reroute and secure the transmission shifter cable at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 7, 2022. You can contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-237-7806 and reference recall number 22-11. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
