Ford Maverick Recall 22V730: Brake Lights May Light Up Without Pedal Pressed

NHTSA campaign 22V730, reported September 30, 2022, 11,239 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain vehicles have an issue in the anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module that can cause the brake lights to turn on even when the driver has not pressed the brake pedal. The vehicles do not meet a federal lighting standard because of this problem.

When brake lights come on unexpectedly, other drivers may think you are slowing down or stopping, which can confuse them and raise the risk of a crash, especially behind you or in traffic.

The fix is a software update to the ABS module, provided free of charge by an authorized Ford dealer. Owner notification letters were mailed November 9, 2022. You can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and check your VIN for open recalls.
