Lightning Emotors FE4 Recall 22V720: Brake and ABS warning lights may fail to show

NHTSA campaign 22V720, reported September 27, 2022, 226 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2022 Lightning eMotors FE4 and FT3 vehicles have a digital instrument panel that may fail to light the BRAKE and ABS warning lights when the system detects low brake fluid or an ABS malfunction. Because the warning does not appear, the driver may not know about a brake fluid problem or an anti-lock braking system fault, which increases the risk of a crash. The vehicles also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 101 (Controls and Displays) and 105 (Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems).

Lightning eMotors will update the instrument panel software at no cost to the owner. Owner notification letters were mailed November 22, 2022. You can contact Lightning eMotors customer service at 1-970-744-7241, referencing recall number 2022-001. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.

If you have an affected vehicle, schedule the free software update with an authorized dealer as soon as possible. Until the repair is made, pay attention to any unusual brake feel or warnings, and have the brake fluid and braking system checked if you have any doubts about their condition.
