Winnebago Travato Recall 22V696: Awning May Extend Unexpectedly While Driving

NHTSA campaign 22V696, reported September 16, 2022, 6,540 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The retractable awning on certain Travato motorhomes may extend on its own while the vehicle is in transit. The awning is part of the vehicle's body structure, and an unintended extension can create a distraction for the driver or a road hazard.

An awning that unexpectedly extends while driving may catch wind, shift the vehicle's handling, or strike objects, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be alert to any awning movement that they did not command.

The remedy is free at an authorized Winnebago dealer, who will install an on/off switch for the extend/retract awning function and update the firmware. This recall is superseded by Winnebago recall 23V627. To confirm your vehicle's status, check your VIN for open recalls and contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885.
