Toyota Tundra Recall 22V661: Parking Brake May Not Engage, Risking Rollaway

NHTSA campaign 22V661, reported September 1, 2022, 83,725 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The skid control computer in the brake actuator may wrongly detect an overcurrent fault in the electronic parking brake actuator. When that happens, it switches to a failsafe mode that prevents the electronic parking brake from engaging.

If the parking brake cannot be engaged while the vehicle is in park, the vehicle can roll away, which increases the risk of a crash. The affected vehicles are 2022 Lexus NX250, 2022 Lexus NX350, and 2022 Toyota Tundra models. These vehicles do not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 135, which covers light vehicle brake systems.

An authorized dealer will reprogram the skid control ECU at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed November 1, 2022. You can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331, referencing recall numbers 22TA11 and 22LA04, and check your VIN for open recalls.
