Blue Bird Vision School Bus Recall 22V579: Fuel Return Line May Corrode and Leak, Raising Fire Risk

NHTSA campaign 22V579, reported August 4, 2022, 4,900 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain school buses with Roush fuel return lines in GEN 4 and GEN 5 LPG (propane) conversion systems may have a problem with the zinc plating on the fuel return line. The plating can break away when road debris strikes it. This lets two dissimilar metals touch and corrode the line.

A corroded fuel return line can leak fuel, which increases the risk of a fire. The recall covers affected vehicles sold or registered in a list of states and Washington, D.C., in the eastern and central United States.

The repair is free. Authorized Blue Bird dealers will replace the fuel return lines at no charge. Owners who received a notification letter, mailed May 24, 2023, can contact Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242 and reference recall number R22BX-SB. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your bus is affected.
