Ditch Witch VT12 Recall 22V576: Wrong weight rating label can lead to overloading and tire failure

NHTSA campaign 22V576, reported August 4, 2022, 1,087 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2020-2022 Ditch Witch VT12, VT14, and VT24 trailers have a vehicle certification label that does not list the correct Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). Because the label shows the wrong axle weight limit, the trailers may not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 120 for wheels and rims on vehicles other than passenger cars.

If the trailer is loaded beyond its actual axle capacity, the tires can fail, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should be careful not to rely on the label as the load limit for their trailer until the correction is made.

The repair is free: an authorized dealer will replace the certification label at no charge. Owners who received the notification letter mailed December 12, 2022 can also call Charles Machine Works customer service at 1-580-572-2223. Check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
