Volkswagen Golf Recall 22V543: Passenger Front Airbag May Explode or Deploy Improperly

NHTSA campaign 22V543, reported July 27, 2022, 1,216 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The front passenger airbag inflator module may explode when the airbag deploys, or it may deploy improperly. An inflator explosion can send sharp metal fragments toward occupants, which could cause serious injury or death. Even when it does not explode, an improper deployment may fail to properly restrain the passenger, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

If you own one of the affected vehicles, the repair is free. Dealers will replace the front passenger airbag module at no cost. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2022. You can contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834, and reference Volkswagen recall numbers 69DY and 61C1.

To check whether your specific vehicle has an open recall, enter your VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site or ask your authorized dealer to check it for you.
