Toyota Tundra Recall 22V501: Rear camera may show front view, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 22V501, reported July 13, 2022, 31,428 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2022 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks with the Panoramic View Monitor system, the parking-assist control software was programmed incorrectly. When the shifter is put into reverse, the front camera image may appear on the multimedia display instead of the rear camera image. The vehicle therefore does not meet the federal rear visibility standard.

A rearview camera that shows the wrong image reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash, particularly when backing up.

Dealers will reprogram the parking assist control unit software at no charge. Owners who received the notification letter mailed July 27, 2022 can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 (Toyota recall number 22TA07). You can also check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
