Continental Cargo Cargo Trailer Recall 22V476: Trailer Safety Chains May Break, Risking Separation

NHTSA campaign 22V476, reported July 6, 2022, 958 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2021-2022 cargo trailers have safety chains that do not meet the trailer's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and could break. If a chain fails, the trailer can detach from the tow vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash.

If you own an affected trailer, dealers will replace the safety chains free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 18, 2022. You can also contact Forest River customer service at 1-254-420-0171 and reference recall number 700-1530.

You should also check your trailer's VIN for open recalls to confirm whether any other repairs are pending.
