Freightliner Cascadia Recall 22V456: ABS Fault Codes May Not Save, Hiding Brake Problems

NHTSA campaign 22V456, reported June 24, 2022, 17 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2022 heavy trucks, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) does not store fault codes when the vehicle is keyed off for more than 5 seconds. This affects the system's diagnostic features and warning light, so the ABS may not warn the driver of a problem, and technicians may not be able to see stored codes needed to repair it. The vehicles also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

An ABS system that does not store fault codes may fail to warn the driver of an issue or prevent proper repair. Either scenario can increase the risk of a crash.

Owners will be reimbursed through a repurchase of the vehicle by Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA). Owner notification letters were mailed June 28, 2024. To ask about the recall, contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall number FL943. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
