Mitsubishi Outlander Recall 22V335: Seat Belt May Not Hold Child Car Seat Securely in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 22V335, reported May 13, 2022, 2,865 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain seat belts in these vehicles, including the right front seat and both second-row seats, have an automatic locking retractor that may release before the belt is fully retracted. When that happens, a child car seat installed with the belt may not be secured properly, which can increase the risk of injury in a crash. The affected vehicles also do not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208, which covers occupant crash protection.

An authorized dealer will inspect the seat belt assemblies and replace them where needed. The repair is free of charge. Owners were mailed notification letters on July 7, 2022, and can contact Mitsubishi Motors North America customer service at 1-88-648-7820 with recall number SR-22-002.

You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls on the NHTSA website to confirm whether your Outlander needs this repair.
