BMW IX Recall 22V240: Airbag warning light may not show airbag faults

NHTSA campaign 22V240, reported April 13, 2022, 3,166 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain BMW iX vehicles from 2022 and 2023 have incorrect airbag control software. If there is a problem with the airbag control or pedestrian protection systems, the airbag warning light and display message may not come on, so the driver may not know the system has a fault.

Because the warning does not appear, a driver may keep driving unaware that the airbags or pedestrian protection may not work as intended. That increases the risk of injury in a crash.

The repair is free. An authorized BMW dealer will reprogram the airbag control unit software at no charge. Owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
