Heartland North Trail Recall 22V199: Incorrect axle weight label can lead to overloading and crash risk

NHTSA campaign 22V199, reported March 29, 2022, 26 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The Federal Certification Label on certain trailers lists an incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). Because the stated rating is wrong, the trailer can be loaded beyond what its axles are designed to carry. The vehicles also do not meet federal certification requirements under 49 CFR Part 567.

An overloaded trailer is more likely to be involved in a crash, since overloading can affect handling, braking and tire and axle performance. Owners should be careful not to exceed the correct weight limits while the label issue is being resolved.

Dealers will send replacement certification labels free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 4, 2022. If you have questions, contact Heartland customer service at 1-877-262-8032. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
