Harley-Davidson XL883N Recall 22V160: Brake fluid warning labels may detach, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 22V160, reported March 16, 2022, 4,177 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2021-2022 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycles may have brake fluid warning labels that detach from the brake fluid reservoir caps. The motorcycles therefore do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 122 for motorcycle brake systems.

Without the warning label, a rider or technician may not be reminded to maintain the brake system properly. Improper brake maintenance can affect braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

Harley-Davidson will mail replacement labels to owners free of charge, or owners can take their motorcycle to an authorized dealer for a free label inspection and replacement. Owner notification letters were mailed April 4, 2022. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your motorcycle is included.
