Rosenbauer Avenger Recall 22V025: Rear Axle Pinion May Crack, Risking Unexpected Parking Brake Engagement

NHTSA campaign 22V025, reported January 21, 2022, 127 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain vehicles equipped with Meritor 180 series drive pinions may have a rear axle drive pinion that can fracture. A fractured pinion may contact the brake drop hose, which could unintentionally engage the parking brake without detection and without the brake lights activating.

This increases the risk of a crash, since the parking brake may be applied while the vehicle is in motion without the driver being warned. Owners should contact Rosenbauer customer service at 1-651-462-1000 and check their VIN for open recalls.

Meritor will inspect and replace the drive pinion, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 27, 2022.
