Peterbilt 579 Recall 22V016: Loose Cab Step Can Move While Entering or Exiting

NHTSA campaign 22V016, reported January 18, 2022, 3,511 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain vehicles with chassis fairings, the bolts that hold the step assembly in the closed position can loosen and fracture the latch attachment. This lets the fairing flex, and a partially unsecured cab step can move unexpectedly while you are getting in or out of the cab, raising the risk of injury.

Authorized dealers will install new fasteners and a bracket to secure the step assembly. The repair is free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 11, 2022. If you have questions, you can contact Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220.

Whether or not you received a letter, check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls and have the repair done at an authorized dealer.
