Altec Aerial Device Recall 21V998: Boom Plumbing May Be Wrong, Risking Tip-Over

NHTSA campaign 21V998, reported December 20, 2021, 150 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain aerial devices, the hydraulic plumbing to the lift cylinders of the lower and upper booms may have been connected incorrectly. This can allow the boom to overextend, particularly when the material handling jib is in use.

An overextended boom can cause the aerial device to tip over, which increases the risk of injury to the operator and others nearby. Owners should stop using the device for jib work until it has been checked.

The inspection and any needed correction to the plumbing are free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 18, 2022. You can contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832, referencing recall number CSN 842, and you can check your VIN for any open recalls.
