What this recall means for you
Certain 2018 Ford F-150 trucks with manual or power release tailgates have tailgate latches that may unlatch unexpectedly while the truck is being driven. An unexpectedly opened tailgate can let cargo that is not secured fall out of the truck bed onto the road.
Fallen cargo can become a road hazard for you and other drivers, which increases the risk of a crash. If you own a 2018 F-150 with this tailgate, check that the tailgate is fully latched before driving and avoid carrying loose items that could fall out. Ford will replace the left-hand and right-hand tailgate latches at no cost at an authorized Ford dealer. Ford mailed owner notification letters on May 31, 2022, and an interim notification letter was mailed January 31, 2022. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall number 21S53), and you can check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
