What this recall means for you
On certain all-wheel-drive vehicles, the bolts that attach the rear driveshaft to the transfer case can loosen or become damaged. If this happens, the driveshaft can separate from the transfer case.
A separated driveshaft can cause a loss of drive power. It can also allow the vehicle to move unintentionally while parked if the parking brake is not engaged, which raises the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the driveshaft bolts and replace them. If any bolts are found loose, the driveshaft, attachment hardware, transfer case flange kit, and seal will also be replaced. The repair is free of charge. Owners were notified by letter starting February 4, 2022, and can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 with Ford recall number 21S54. You can also check your VIN for open recalls.
