Subaru Ascent Recall 21V954: Steering Tie Rods May Separate, Causing Loss of Control

NHTSA campaign 21V954, reported December 9, 2021, 1,305 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2020 Subaru Ascent vehicles have front tie rod ends that may not fit properly into their housings, because the tapered hole in the housing is incorrect. This can cause the tie rods and housings to become deformed during assembly or when parts are replaced, if excessive torque is applied.

If a tie rod separates from its housing, the driver can lose steering control, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and not delay getting it repaired.

Dealers will replace the left and right front tie rod ends and housings free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 7, 2022. You can contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614, and you should check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
