Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 Recall 21V945: Gas Pedal Can Get Trapped by Floor Mat, Causing Unintended Acceleration

NHTSA campaign 21V945, reported December 8, 2021, 1,218 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The accelerator pedal on certain buses may be misaligned and can wear a hole into the floor mat. When this happens, the pedal can become trapped, so the bus does not slow down as expected when the driver lifts their foot off the gas. This creates a risk of unintended acceleration and a higher chance of a crash.

If you own a 2022 Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2 school bus, the manufacturer, Daimler Trucks North America, will inspect the gas pedal assembly and replace it if needed. The repair is free and is performed by an authorized dealer. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on February 5, 2022.

You can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall number FL913. You should also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
