KME Predator SS Recall 21V905: Rear Axle Pinion May Fracture, Risking Unexpected Parking Brake Engagement

NHTSA campaign 21V905, reported November 19, 2021, 26 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A rear axle drive pinion in certain KME emergency vehicles may fracture. If it does, the broken part can contact the brake drop hose, which may unintentionally engage the parking brake without warning the driver and without the brake lights activating.

An unexpectedly applied parking brake can cause the vehicle to stop or slow suddenly while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners should contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3928 and check their VIN for open recalls.

The remedy is free: Meritor will inspect the drive pinion and replace it as necessary at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 7, 2022.
