Mack LR Recall 21V856: Power Steering Pump May Fail, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 21V856, reported November 3, 2021, 79 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A machining defect in the power steering pump can cause pressure to build up inside it. This may break the shaft seal and lead to a loss of power steering assist, making the vehicle harder to steer.

Losing power steering assist increases the risk of a crash. If you notice the steering becoming unusually stiff or heavy, take the vehicle to a repair facility as soon as possible.

Authorized dealers will replace the power steering pump at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed on December 10, 2021. You can also contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
