Oshkosh S-Series Recall 21V851: Power Steering Pump Can Fail, Losing Steering Assist

NHTSA campaign 21V851, reported November 2, 2021, 697 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A machining defect in the power steering pump on certain 2020-2021 S-Series vehicles can cause pressure to build inside the pump until the shaft seal breaks. When that happens, the vehicle can lose power steering assist, making it harder to steer.

Loss of power steering assist increases the risk of a crash. Drivers who notice stiff or unresponsive steering should take the vehicle out of service as soon as it is safe to do so.

Owners will have the power steering pump inspected and replaced as necessary at no cost. You can perform the work yourself or have one of Oshkosh's service centers do it for free. Owner notification letters were mailed December 15, 2021. For questions, contact Oshkosh customer service at 1-888-686-7278, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
