- Problem
- Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2021 Tracer 900 GT (MTT9GTM) motorcycles. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) printed on the Federal Certification label may not match the VIN stamped on the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
- Risk
- An owner that references an incorrect VIN label may not recognize their vehicle is involved in a safety recall, and may not have the recall remedy performed, which could increase the risk of injury, fire, or a crash.
- Remedy
- Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will install a correct certification label, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 12, 2021. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990151.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
What this recall means for you
The Federal Certification label on certain motorcycles may show a VIN that does not match the number stamped on the frame. Because of this mismatch, an owner who checks the label against a recall lookup may not realize their motorcycle is covered by a safety recall, so the recall repair may never get done. That delay could raise the risk of injury, fire, or a crash.
The remedy is free. Authorized dealers will install a correct certification label at no cost to the owner. Owners were mailed notification letters beginning November 12, 2021. If you have questions, you can contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926 and reference recall number 990151.
Regardless of whether you received a letter, check your motorcycle's VIN, as stamped on the vehicle, against the NHTSA recall lookup to confirm whether any open recalls apply to your bike.
