What this recall means for you
On certain Avalanche street sweepers, the outside switch box that controls the conveyor position can activate by itself while the vehicle is running. This can move the conveyor unexpectedly and create a crushing hazard between the conveyor and the hopper.
An unintended conveyor movement can cause serious injury or death to anyone caught in that gap. Owners should treat these vehicles with caution and keep people clear of the conveyor and hopper area while the engine is running.
The repair is free. An authorized dealer will install a kit that includes an outside switch guard and two crushing hazard warning decals. Owners who have not received a notice can contact Schwarze customer service at 1-800-879-7934, and should check their vehicle identification number for open recalls.
