HME Ford F-550 Recall 21V791: Dashboard warning light may not alert driver to emissions faults

NHTSA campaign 21V791, reported October 12, 2021, 8 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2013 through 2016 HME Ford F-550 emergency vehicles may not turn on the malfunction indicator light (check engine light) on the dashboard when the on-board diagnostic system detects a fault in the emissions control system. The driver may therefore not be warned that a problem exists.

Without that warning, the driver may not know about the issue, which could lead to a loss of drive power and an increased risk of a crash. Owners of affected vehicles should check their VIN for open recalls and contact HME, Inc. customer service at 1-616-534-1463 if they have questions.

The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 20, 2022.
