Peterbilt 520 Recall 21V720: Rear brakes may release too slowly, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 21V720, reported September 16, 2021, 15 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A quick release valve on the rear brake signal hose may be missing. Without it, the rear brakes may not release at the correct time, so the brakes can keep dragging after the driver lets off the pedal. This increases the risk of a crash or injury. The vehicles also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

If you own an affected truck, an authorized Peterbilt dealer will inspect the rear brake signal hose for the missing valve and install one if needed. The repair is free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 7, 2021. You can also contact PACCAR customer service at 1-940-591-4220 (Peterbilt).

You can check whether your vehicle has any open recalls by entering its VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site. Reference PACCAR recall number 21PBK when contacting the dealer or manufacturer.
