Gillig LOW Floor Electric Recall 21V705: Electric Bus Could Shut Down Without Warning and Override May Fail

NHTSA campaign 21V705, reported September 10, 2021, 15 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2020-2021 Gillig Low Floor battery electric buses, equipped with Cummins Electric Drivetrain Systems, may experience a sudden system shutdown. When a shutdown occurs, the high voltage shutdown override switch may not work, and the driver receives no warning. The vehicle can therefore stop unexpectedly without the driver being able to override it, which can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy is free. Authorized Gillig dealers will inspect the vehicle and update the parameter settings for the protection override switch as necessary. Owner letters were mailed November 12, 2021. If you own or operate one of these vehicles, contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500 or 1-510-264-5073 to arrange the repair.

You can also check whether your vehicle has any open recalls by entering its VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site or by asking a Gillig dealer.
