GMC Acadia Recall 21V702: Air Bags May Not Deploy in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 21V702, reported September 10, 2021, 2 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2022 GMC Acadia vehicles may have left the factory with the sensing diagnostic module (SDM) still in manufacturing mode, meaning it was never activated before shipment. Because of this, the air bags may not deploy in a crash, which raises the risk of injury to occupants. The vehicles also do not meet the federal occupant crash protection standard.

According to the notice, only two affected vehicles are still in dealer inventory, so owners are not being mailed letters. The fix is for the vehicles to be returned to the assembly plant so the SDM can be activated. If you own a 2022 GMC Acadia and have concerns, you can contact GMC at 1-800-462-8782, and you should check your VIN for any open recalls at your nearest authorized dealer. Repairs under recall are free.
