What this recall means for you
The trunk latch can become damaged, which may prevent the trunk from being opened from the inside. Because of this, the vehicles do not meet the federal safety standard for internal trunk release (FMVSS 401).
If someone is inside the trunk compartment and cannot get out, they could become trapped, which increases the risk of injury. Owners should take this seriously and have the recall repair completed as soon as possible.
Dealers will replace the trunk latch assembly free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 10, 2022. You can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 (recall SC216), and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA recall lookup or with a Kia dealer to confirm whether your vehicle has an open recall.
