What this recall means for you
Pressure can build up inside the power steering pump on certain emergency vehicles, which may break the pump's shaft seal. When this happens, the vehicle can lose its power steering assist, making it harder to steer.
A loss of power steering assist can increase the risk of a crash, because the driver may have difficulty controlling the vehicle, especially at low speeds or during sharp maneuvers. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for owner notification. Owners can contact Custom Fire customer service at 1-715-294-2555 for more information.
The remedy is free: the power steering pump will be removed and replaced at no cost. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA recall lookup for any open recalls, and contact an authorized dealer if your vehicle is affected.
