Ranger Trail RT198P Recall 21V553: Undersized Trailer Safety Cable May Fail to Prevent Detachment

NHTSA campaign 21V553, reported July 21, 2021, 145 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2021-2022 Ranger Trail trailers were built with a safety cable that is under-rated for the size of the trailer. If the coupler fails while towing, the cable may not keep the trailer attached to the tow vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash.

If you own an affected trailer, an authorized dealer will replace the safety cable free of charge. You can also contact Tracker customer service at 1-417-873-4555 and reference recall TS-0039 to arrange the repair. Until the cable is replaced, check that your safety chains and cable are properly connected before each trip.

You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website for any open recalls.
