Trail King Tkolb Recall 21V541: Steering arm may detach, risking loss of steering control

NHTSA campaign 21V541, reported July 20, 2021, 83 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2018-2020 Trail King TKOLB vehicles equipped with Dexter Smart Steer axles may have a steering arm that can detach from the steering knuckle during certain low-speed, high-side loading maneuvers. Attachment hardware may also fall onto the road and become a hazard.

A detached steering arm can cause a loss of steering control, and falling hardware can create a road hazard. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Dexter Axle will inspect the steering arm and apply welds at no cost. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 4, 2021. You can contact Trail King customer service at 1-800-843-3324 or Dexter Axle customer service at 1-574-295-7888, referencing recall TK202103. You can also check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
