IC Bus Cesb Recall 21V450: School Buses Lack Enough Emergency Exits, Delaying Evacuation

NHTSA campaign 21V450, reported June 15, 2021, 33 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2014, 2019 and 2022 IC Bus CE school buses do not have enough emergency exits. The vehicles fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 217, which governs bus emergency exits and window retention and release. With too few exits, passengers may be delayed in getting out during an emergency, which increases the risk of injury.

The remedy is free. Authorized dealers will install two additional emergency exit windows at no charge to the owner. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 6, 2021. If you have questions, contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 and reference recall number 21506.

You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls to confirm whether your bus is affected and still needs the repair.
