Utilimaster Velocity Recall 21V448: Wrong seating capacity on tire placard can lead to overloading

NHTSA campaign 21V448, reported June 14, 2021, 80 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The Tire and Loading Information placard on certain 2021 Utilimaster Velocity vehicles incorrectly lists a seating capacity of one, when the actual seating capacity is two. The placard therefore does not match the vehicle and does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 for tire selection and rims.

Because the placard understates how many people the vehicle can carry, it may lead to the vehicle being overloaded. An overloaded vehicle has a higher risk of a crash.

Dealers will install new placards free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 17, 2021. You can also contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-582-3454, referencing recall number 21-16. Check your vehicle's VIN for any open recalls.
