Forest River Coachmen Recall 21V350: Trailer Brakes May Fail to Engage, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 21V350, reported May 14, 2021, 39 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The breakaway switch on certain travel trailers may lose power because its power lead is wired incorrectly. The breakaway switch is what activates the trailer's brakes if the trailer separates from the tow vehicle, so if it has no power, the trailer brakes may not engage.

Without working trailer brakes, the risk of a crash increases, especially in situations where the trailer becomes detached or needs to be stopped quickly. Owners should take this recall seriously and avoid towing with a trailer whose brakes may be compromised until the repair is completed.

Authorized dealers will rewire the breakaway switch free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 9, 2021. You can contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8205, referencing recall number 220-1336. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls to confirm whether your trailer is affected.
