Chevrolet 6500 Recall 21V346: Engine Software Can Exceed Tire Speed Rating, Risking Tire Failure

NHTSA campaign 21V346, reported May 13, 2021, 196 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The engine control module on these trucks was calibrated incorrectly, which allows the vehicle to go faster than the tires' maximum speed rating of 75 mph.

If the vehicle exceeds the tires' speed rating, a tire can fail, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should keep this in mind and avoid driving at speeds above 75 mph.

The repair is free. An authorized Chevrolet dealer will update the engine control module software at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 7, 2021. To check whether your vehicle has open recalls, enter your VIN on the NHTSA website or contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, referencing GM recall N202325530.
