Peterbilt 579 Recall 21V328: Air Brake Springs May Fail, Risking Loss of Braking

NHTSA campaign 21V328, reported May 10, 2021, 13 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2021 heavy trucks have air brake spring brake chambers that may have been assembled with springs outside specification. This can cause the chamber's pressure plate to shift, which may tear the diaphragm and cause a loss of air pressure in the brake system.

Loss of air pressure reduces braking ability and increases the risk of a crash. Owners should watch for signs of a problem and treat the recall seriously.

An authorized dealer will replace the brake chambers free of charge. Owners who received a notification letter, mailed July 9, 2021, can contact PACCAR (Peterbilt) customer service at 1-940-591-4220 and reference recall number 21PBE. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
