Ford Transit Recall 21V324: Rear Wheels Can Detach From Warped Axle Flange

NHTSA campaign 21V324, reported May 7, 2021, 2,503 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The rear axle flange on certain 2019 Transit vans with aluminum alloy wheels may be warped. This warping can cause the wheel studs to fracture.

If the studs break, the wheel may detach from the vehicle while driving, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and stop driving the van if they notice unusual wheel vibration or other signs of a loose wheel, and contact a dealer right away.

The repair is free at an authorized Ford dealer. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and, if necessary, replace the rear axle shaft assembly, axle shaft mounting bolts, and rear wheel lug nuts. Owners can also call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
