What this recall means for you
The starter interrupt on certain heavy trucks may allow the engine to start when the transmission is not in Park. This means the vehicle can start while it is not in the proper safety position, so it does not meet a federal safety standard for transmission shift position and starter interlock.
Starting the vehicle when the transmission is not in Park can cause unintended movement, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should be cautious about starting the vehicle and always confirm the transmission is in Park before starting the engine.
The repair is free. Dealers will inspect and reconnect the transmission and chassis harness at no charge. Owners who have questions can contact PACCAR customer service at 1-425-828-5888 (recall number 21KWB), and you should check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
