Stargate Dump Trailer Recall 21V238: Steering arm bolts can shear, risking a crash

NHTSA campaign 21V238, reported April 5, 2021, 6 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2018 and 2019 Stargate dump trailers equipped with the Smart-Steer 2.0 self-steering axle have a bolt-on steer arm at the 8-7/8" tie-rod location. Under heavy loading, the bolts attaching the steer arm to the knuckle can shear.

If the bolts shear, the steer arm can detach from the knuckle and drag, which increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Stargate will notify owners, and authorized dealers will weld the steering arm and/or replace the defective bolts at no charge. Contact Stargate customer service at 1-905-636-6888, extension 30, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
