Thomas Built Buses Minotour Recall 21V113: Bus Emergency Exit May Stay Locked While Engine Runs

NHTSA campaign 21V113, reported February 24, 2021, 14 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2022 school buses fitted with an optional rear door Vandalock system, the engine can be started while an emergency exit is still locked. This means the vehicle can be running without the exit being ready to open, which fails the federal bus emergency exit standard (FMVSS 217).

A locked emergency exit can delay passengers from getting out during an emergency, such as a fire or crash, which increases the risk of injury.

Daimler Trucks North America will notify owners, and authorized dealers will repair the Vandalock interlock system at no cost to you. To check whether your bus is affected, use your VIN to look for open recalls, or contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall number FL-876.

The repair is normally free at an authorized dealer.
