- Problem
- Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2019-2021 YZF-R3 motorcycles, 2019-2020 XMAX (CDZ300) scooters, and 2020 MT03 motorcycles. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) printed on the Federal Certification label may not match the VIN stamped on the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
- Risk
- The owner, referencing an incorrect VIN label, may not recognize their vehicle is involved in a safety recall, and may not have the recall remedy performed, which could increase the risk of injury, fire or a crash.
- Remedy
- Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will install a correct certification label, free of charge. The recall began February 19, 2021. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990144.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
The VIN printed on the Federal Certification label on certain Yamaha motorcycles and scooters may not match the VIN stamped on the vehicle. Because the label is wrong, an owner could look up the printed VIN, fail to find their vehicle tied to a safety recall, and miss a needed repair. That could raise the risk of injury, fire or a crash.
Yamaha will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will install a correct certification label at no charge. The recall began February 19, 2021.
If you own one of these vehicles, check that the VIN on your certification label matches the VIN stamped on your vehicle, and check your VIN for open recalls. For questions, contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926 and reference recall number 990144.
