Pierce Impel Recall 21V006: Remote Controller Can Drain Battery Early, Hindering Fire Monitor Use

NHTSA campaign 21V006, reported January 13, 2021, 3 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The wireless remote controller used to aim and adjust the electric water monitor on these firefighting vehicles has a software problem. Its sleep mode is disabled, so the batteries drain faster than normal.

If the controller runs out of power, the crew may be unable to use it to direct the water stream and change the spray pattern. That could slow firefighting efforts and increase the risk of injury.

Pierce Manufacturing will notify owners. Dealers will take the affected controllers and send them to Akron Brass for a software update at no cost to you. Owners may contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723, and you can check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
