Freightliner Business Class M2 Recall 20V807: Loose or Missing Brake Caliper Tie Bar Can Raise Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 20V807, reported December 21, 2020, 80 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain heavy trucks and buses, the fasteners that hold the hydraulic brake caliper tie bar on the front steer axle may not have been properly tightened, and in some cases the tie bar may not have been installed at all. A loose or dangling tie bar can contact the rotating wheel-end parts, and the brake components can be damaged from flexing. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash.

If your vehicle is affected, the manufacturer will notify you. Authorized dealers will inspect both steer axle wheel ends to confirm that all four tie bar mounting fasteners are properly tightened. If a required tie bar is missing, the dealer will check the caliper anchor mounts and brake function, including pad slide pins and pad movement, before installing one. All repairs are free of charge.

You can check whether your vehicle has open recalls by entering its VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site or with a dealer. Contact an authorized dealer to schedule the inspection.
